Kerala planning to produce bio-diesel from Jatropha seeds: Minister
Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 4 (UNI) Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan today informed the state Assembly that the government was planning to produce bio-diesel from the seeds of Jatropha.
However, a final decision on setting up of bio-diesel plants either in private or government sector would be taken only after having a detailed study and a thorough examination about the project, he said in a written reply.
Though the government had noted that Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh were producing bio-diesel from the seeds of Jatropha to face the diesel price hike, it had not conducted any study in this regard.
Mr Achuthanandan said three companies, Centre for Green Fuel Development, Palakkad, D1 Mohan Bio-diesels, Chennai, and Chakkala Community Association of India, Neyyattinkara, had submitted their proposals to the government in connection with the bio-diesel production.
According to their claim bio-diesel could be sold at prices between Rs 20 and Rs 25 per liter, he added.
