JK Vigilance unearths Rs 1 cr amased wealth of accountant

Srinagar, Oct 4 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir Vigilance Organisation today raided the premises of at least four properties owned by an accountant worth more than Rs one crore, an official spokesman said.

He said the Vigilance Organisation registered a case of possession of disproportionate assets against Abdul Ahad Rather, a resident of Drusoo village in Pulwama district of south Kashmir.

Rather, popularly known as Ahad Block, is an accountant with the state Finance Department and at present on deputation to first auxiliary battalion.

The spokesman said the Vigilance sleuths launched simultaneous searches in the premises of at least 4 properties owned by Rather.

The searches were carried out under warrants issued by the Special Judge Anti-Corruption Court, Srinagar, he added.

So far, the spokesman said the Vigilance sleuths have detected as many as five land and house properties under the possession of Rather. These include a two-storied house and a chain of five shops on a plot of two kanals of Pulwama in south Kashmir. A three-storied house under construction stands on a plot of one kanal and 5 marlas of land at Dangerpora, a 12 kanal orchard at Tukroo and one kanal four marlas of land at Pampore in the same district.

Besides investments worth Rs 10 lakh held in his name and that of his son and daughter in the form of FDRs and bank balance have also been detected, he added.

The search also yielded 232 gm of gold ornaments, 242 kg copper utensils, a Maruti car and expensive electronic gadgets such as washing machine, refrigerator, colour TV and inverter.

Rather remained posted in the Rural Development Department for a long time during which he allegedly amassed huge wealth through corrupt practices, the spokesman said.
