House owners creating mosquito breeding situations to be challaned

Chandigarh, Oct 4 (UNI) Taking a serious view of suspected dengue cases being reported in the region, the Chandigarh Administration today decided to issue notices to and challan house owners creating ''Aedes mosquito-genic'' situations at their houses.

The defaulters will be challaned and fined for continuously allowing the mosquitoes to breed inside their houses, an official spokesman said.

This decision was taken at a meeting held here today under the chairmanship of Home-cum-Health Secretary Krishna Mohan. The meeting took stock of the situation and reviewed the various steps undertaken by the Health Department for prevention of dengue cases in Chandigarh.

As many as 27 suspected dengue cases from Chandigarh, Haryana, Punjab and other neighbouring areas were admitted in PGI, Government Medical College Hospital and General Hospital here. Only three cases from Chandigarh have tested positive for dengue. Six patients admitted to the PGI have confirmed as positive cases.

The meeting was attended by the Director Health Services, Dr Manjit Singh Bains, representatives of the Health department, Municipal Engineering department, Municipal Corporation, PGI and Government Medical College, sector 32.

Health officials informed that the union territory of Chandigarh has been divided into four zones in order to curb the dengue. The Health Department is conducting a survey of fever cases and mosquito-genic situations. The department will ensure treatment of water collections with larvicides and chemicals.

Arrangements for testing dengue have already been made in Government multi specialty hospital, Sector 16, by procuring the dengue kits. A special isolation ward has been set up in the hospital and fogging of affected and dengue prone areas started from today.

The Health Secretary has called upon the residents to take special care to not to allow water to stagnate in the domestic and peri domestic areas in order to eliminate the Aedes mosquito breeding.
