Govt has faith in me: Admiral Prakash
Mumbai, Oct 4 (UNI) Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Admiral Arun Prakash today said he remains in the saddle because the government has faith in him, adding his conscience is clear notwithstanding allegations.
During an interface with the media after presiding over the ceremonial parade of Sea Cadet Corps(SCC) at 'Training Ship Jawahar' here this evening, the naval chief dismissed reports of the Indian Navy loosing edge to Pakistan, adding it is consistently focussed on long-time maritime threats as it continues to be its foremost priority.
Replying to questions, he said the deal for PC 3 Orion aircraft will be clinched in a year , while acquisiton of an aircraft carrier from the Russian Navy is under progress and is expected to reach Indian shores in September 2007.
He presented the first 'CNS Standard' to SCC in recognition of its continued and valuable contribution to the society and for instilling strong maritime ethos among young cadets in the finest Naval traditions.
Speaking on the occasion, Admiral Arun Prakash warned that unless there is strong maritime conscience among people, it would be difficult for the Navy and its institutions to transform into a world class blue water navy.
Lauding the SCC for playing a crucial role in building the much-needed maritime discipline, he said the Indian Navy is closely embedded with SCC by providing it full support and strength.
Established in 1938 in Karachi, Sea Scout Group was founded by late Honorary Commodore Gokaldas S Ahuja, a businessman , to involve youth in water-based activities by instilling in them spirit of discipline and adventure.
Later, in 1951 it was rechristened as SCC and in 1973 it was registered as a public registered charitable trust with the Chairman trustee being the Flag Officer, Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command.
