Governor's Gold Cup to begin here tomorrow

Gangtok, Oct 4 (UNI) The 28th All India Governor's Gold Cup football tournament is all set to begin here tomorrow.

Sikkim Police will meet the Tibetan National Football Association, Dehradun on the opening day, Sikkim Football Association authorities who are the organising the tournament, informed here today.

They said altogether 12 teams would be playing 19 matches in the tournament and the winners would get a prize money of Rs five lakh and the runners-up Rs two lakh.

On an experimental basis the matches would be played both on knock out and league basis for the first time.

The authorities further informed that the pre-quarterfinal and semifinal matches would be played on knock out basis, whereas, the quarterfinal matches on league basis.

Sikkim Governor V Rama Rao is scheduled to inaugurate the tournament, sources informed About 12 teams namely Tibetan National Football Association, Dehradun, Kolkotta Custom, Asom Rifles, Punjab Police, Arambagh Bangladesh, Army eleven, BSF Jalandhar, Lions eleven, All Nepal Football Association, Air India, Sikkim Police and Sikkim Sports Academy will be participating in the tournament.
