Darren Lehmann's cricket academy to coach overseas students

Chennai, Oct 4 (UNI) Australian all-rounder Darren Lehmann has established a cricket academy at the famous Adelaide Oval to offer courses to overseas students.

The Darren Lehmann Cricket Academy, which had been set up in association with Adelaide's renowned educational institutions, would offer young cricketers an opportunity to develop their cricket talent during the northern hemisphere winter, he told reporters here last night.

Lehmann, who has been appointed as South Australia's special envoy to India, was here for the launch of 'South Australia - A Brilliant Blend,' a promotional campaign to foster bilateral ties at people-to-people level.

Depending on the length of their stay, the players would be offered positions in South Australian district teams and train with their adopted clubs besides receiving specialist coaching and fitness training expertise from a variety of talented coaches, he added.

''The programme will ensure each player is prepared as best as possible for their return to their northern summer,'' he added.

Lehmann said the courses would initially include 'Summer and Winter School Holidays Coaching Clinics' and 'Study Tours.' The three-week clinics included two weeks of intensive coaching and one week of optional touring. The first clinic would be offered in November with a maximum intake of 20 students.

The two to three-week study tours are offered in April to May and October to December each year, combining intensive cricket tuition and leisure activities across South Australia.

Lehmann said professional development courses were also available for current cricketers who wished to further develop their skills.
