Curfew yet to be lifted in Tikrikilla
Shillong, Oct 4 (UNI) Curfew continued today at Tikrikilla in West Garo Hill district, clamped following clashes between two communties during the immersion of Goddess Durga yesterday.
One person had succumbed to his injuries while three others were seriously injured during the clashes.
Fearing communal clashes, the district authority had clamped curfew in the area.
Police have arrested 12 persons in this connection.
West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner P Sampath Kumar told UNI over phone from Tikrikilla that although the situation was under control curfew was not lifted as a precautionary measure.
However, Mr Kumar said the curfew would be relaxed tomorrow from 0500 hours to 1700 hours after assessing the situation.
He also added that a peace meeting held today in the area was attended by all the community leaders.
''The community leaders have expressed their concern on this unfortunate incident,'' Mr Kumar said.
He said the leaders had pledged to co-operate with the district administration.
State Home Minister Robert Garnet Lyngdoh said the government was monitoring the situation and would soon restore peace.
