Court asks Salem to redraft plea to meet mother
Mumbai, Oct 4 (UNI) While declining to grant permission to extradited gangster Abu Salem to meet his mother in the premises of TADA court here today, judge Pramod Kode directed him to file a proper application for the same.
Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam opposed Salem's plea on the ground that the court could not grant it now when it is the middle of delivering verdict in the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts.
An accused in the blasts case, though to be tried separately, Salem sought the court's permission to meet his mother who has come to the city from Azamgarh district in Uttar Pradesh.
The court has so far convicted 26 accused and discharged 12 others out of the total 123 accused who faced trial in the case.
Salem was extradited from Portugal in November last year to face trial in six cases, including the serial blasts case, and has been in custody since.
