Copper production up at 2,38,573 tonnes

New Delhi, Oct 4: Total production of copper cathode in the country rose to 2,38,573 tonnes during April-August 2006 against 1,93,175 tonnes in the same period last year.

Private sector units Hindalco Industries Ltd (HINDALCO) produced 1,13,203 tonnes against a target of 1,33,998 tonnes and Sterlite Industries (India) Ltd (SIL) produced 1,10,818 tonnes against a target of 1,26,736 tonnes, an official spokesperson said today.

Public sector Hindustan Copper Ltd (HCL) lagged with production of 14,552 tonnes against 15,570 tonnes targeted.

During August 2006, the production of copper cathode was 54,460 tonnes. Of this, HCL produced 2,780 tonnes, HINDALCO 24,581 tonnes and SIL 27,099 tonnes.
