Cop among two held for taking bribe in Kolhapur

Kolhapur, Oct 4 (UNI) The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials arrested today two persons, including a police constable, for accepting a bribe here.

ACB sources have identified the accused as Siddu Dhondiram Lokare, attached to the Panhala tehsil police station, and Rajaram Sankpal, a tea stall owner.

Sources said the complainant, Tatoba Jadhav, a resident of village Kololee, had filed a complaint against Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus conductor Suresh Patil for allegedly manhandling him while he was travelling to Nandari from Kolhapur recently.

Lokare called Mr Patil to the police station and demanded Rs 5,000 as bribe money to settle the matter. But on Patil's refusal to pay that amount of money, they settled for Rs 1,500. Of which, Mr Patil paid Rs 1,000 to Lokare.

Then, Mr Patil filed a compalaint against Lokare with them. The ACB team set a trap and arrested Lokare and Sankpal while accepting the remaining bribe amount of Rs 500, sources added.
