Coast Guard get ultramodern ship Mirabahen

Jamnagar, Oct 4 (UNI) The Coast Guard here now has a new ultra-modern ship 'Mirabahen' which was launched yesterday from the Okha port by Indian Coast Guard's Western division commander A Rajshekhar Rao.

The high-speed ship can reach the Indo-Pak border in two to three hours while other similar ships take seven to eight hours. Built by the Goa Shipyards, the ship will enhance patrolling capabilities of the coast guard from Porbandar, Okha to Jakhho ports, Mr Rao said.

Additional coast guard centres would also be opened in Veraval, Popavav and in South Gujarat between 2007 to 2012, the coast Guard.

Official said. The new ship would also help in preuenting our fishermen from straying into Pakistani waters which will save them from unnecessary hassles and putting up in Pakistani jails, he added.

Coast Guard's Commanding Officer GP Raj, Okha's Commanding officer Raksesh Raj, Navy's senior Commander Ashok, Port officer Pande and other coast guard officers from Gujarat and officers of Tata Chemicals were present on the occasion.
