Bill to put export of perishable goods on fast track in cabinet soon
New Delhi, Oct 4 (UNI) With a view to putting the export of horticulture and other perishable goods on the fast track, the government will soon take the draft legislation to the cabinet for fixing accountability of those who delay clearances at the customs and ports.
''The inter-ministerial group has already cleared the draft legislation while some other views are awaited,'' Commerce Secretary G K Pillai said in his first press conference after assuming office.
Once the cabinet clears the bill, it would be placed in the winter session of parliament, Mr Pillai added.
The clearance for the import and export of perishable goods is a more time-consuming and tedious process than that for the non-perishable goods.
Through this window, procedural hassles associated with perishable goods will be vastly reduced, making the process of importing and exporting perishable goods far more convenient.
