BBC's new radio prog for women from Oct 6
Lucknow, Oct 4 (UNI) British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) World Service Trust is launching 'Angan ke Paar' (Beyond the Courtyard), a new weekly Hindi programme on radio in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand starting October 6.
The radio show to be broadcast on 22 radio stations of All India Radio (AIR) would focus on issues related to women's empowerment, with emphasis on women's health, HIV/AIDS messages being its integral part, Andrew Whitehead, Director BBC World Service Trust, India and Ms Lubna Khan, Project Manager told reporters here today.
The programme would comprise contribution of 12 women reporters from the three regions interacting with AIDS victims and other awareness inputs, they said. It was expected to reach a potential audience of up to 200 million.
The radio stations, which would broadcast the show included Agra, Bareilly, Faizabad, Gorakhpur, Jhansi, Lucknow, Mathura, Najibabad, Rampur, Varanasi, Allahabad and Obra (Uttar Pradesh), Chaibasa, Hazaribag, Jamshedpur, Ranchi (Jharkhand), Bhagalpur, Daltonganj, Darbhanga, Patna, Purnia and sasaram (Bihar). A vesrsion of programme would also be broadcast on the BBC Hindi Service.
'Angan ke Paar' would be an attempt to bring unheard women's voice to the fore, beside evolving it as a platform for women's issues, stories and struggles, and a window that gives a view beyond the confines of their courtyard, Ms Khan observed.
