Army regrets killing due to mistaken identity
Srinagar Oct 4 (UNI) The Army today regretted the killing of two civilians in an ambush at Kokernag in south Kashmir district of Anantnag.
On a tip-off, an Amry column laid an ambush between village Phrumbu and Buna Ahlan on the intervening night of October three and four in Anantnag District.
At about midnight, five people were seen approaching the ambush site. As they entered the area, they were challenged by the ambush party. All five of them started running immediately.
On this the ambush party opened fire resulting in two fatal and two non fatal casualties.
On ascertaining, it was found that these people were civilians and were returning from fields with their agricultural implements mistakenly taken as weapons by the ambush party.
The injured were immediately evacuated to District Hospital, Anantang and onward to SKIMS Srinagar.
The Amry deeply regrets the issue, caused due to mistaken identity and offers all condolences to the family. Detailed inquiry is in progress.
