Andaman trade union demand Shinde to regularise labourers
Port Blair, Oct 4 (UNI) Several trade union leaders in Andaman and Nicobar Islands led by lone MP Manoranjan Bhakta today demanded Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde to create 677 posts for labourers in Andaman's Electricity Department.
Mr Shinde, who is here to attend the concluding ceremony of 19th All India Official Language Conference, had a talk with Mr Bhakta regarding the problems of the concerned department.
''We have requested Mr Shinde to retain the 677 posts of Mazdoors,'' Indian National Trade Union Congress(INTUC) of Andaman unit general secretary Vidya Prakash Krishna told UNI here today.
The INTUC had also submitted a memorandum to the Minister agitating the cause of the Daily Rated Mazdoors and requested him to create and regularise the required number of posts for them who are working with the department since 1993.
The INTUC also requested the Minister to constitute a Licensing Board for the territory to certify linemen, electricians and others so that the qualified persons might be deployed to certify the electrical works performed in private industries.
