Andaman gets first RTTO for tsunami warning
Port Blair, Oct 4 (UNI) The Survey of India has installed a Real Time Tidal Observatory (RTTO) in the tsunami-prone Andaman and Nicobar Islands to warn the people here of a possible tsunami in advance.
The RTTO which had been installed in Chatham Island near here would be maintained and operated by the Port Management Board.
''It is very essential for the people of the country and there is need to create more such infrastructure facilities,'' lone Member of Parliament from the Andaman and Nicobar islands Manoranjan Bhakta said.
Mr Bhakta expressed his gratitude for this holistic asset which would inform the people in advance for any occurrence of tsunami.
The Survey of India has also decided to install such RTTO's around the coastal belt to keep the track of high and low tides.
Mr Bhakta also urged the people here to face the natural and artificial calamities with courage and should cooperate with each other.
