11 Hospitalised after consuming water

Cuddalore, Oct 4: 11 people were hospitalized after they consumed water pumped from an over head tank Chunamchavady near Cuddalore SIPCOT here today.

According to police, several people who drank the water and even those who washed their face with the water had fainted.

So far 11 people were admitted to the Cuddalore Government General Hospital and several others were being brought for treatment.

Following this, people beloning to different political parties thronged the hospital and started accusing each other.

Police rushed to spot and Cuddalore Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kumar visited the hospital.

Though the actual cause of the incident is yet to be assertained, the political parties started levelling allegation against each other, stating that the water in the tank was poisoned in view of the local body elections.

Since, the water tank is situated near to SIPCOT, certain locals suspect that some chemical might have got mixed with the water making it poisonous.

Water samples have been collected and sent to laboratory for tests.
