Two militants killed, numberdar escaped bid on life in Kashmir
Srinagar, Oct 3 (UNI) Security forces killed two militants in a night-long encounter in the central Kashmir district of Badgam, while a numberdar and his family escaped unhurt in an attack in north Kashmir.
Official sources said Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police launched a joint operation at village Boru in Badgam district late last night following a tip off that militants were hiding there.
However, when the security forces were about to storm a particular house, they came under heavy fire from militants. The fire was returned and in the night-long operation two militants were killed. Two AK rifles and other arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain militants.
They said militants hurled two hand grenades and resorted to firing towards the house of a numberdar Mohammad Amin Reshi at Tangmarg in north Kashmir last night. However, the grenades did not explode and were later defused by a bomb disposal squad.
Two vehicles of Mr Reshi were damaged in the firing, they said.
Mr Reshi and his family members escaped unhurt in the attack.
Militants also hurled a hand grenade towards the house of one Bashir Ahmad at Chatabal in the down town city. However, it did not explode and was later defused.
