'Eminent Cartoonists of India' at Frankfurt Book Fair

New Delhi, Oct 3 (UNI)'Eminent Cartoonists of India', a programme produced by Doordarshan, has been selected for screening at the prestigious Frankfurt Book Fair which gets underway tomorrow.

Films on 13 famous India cartoonists, including four Padmabhushan awardees-- RK Lakhman, Mario Miranda, Shankar Pillay and Ajit Ninan, will be shown round-the-clock at the Book Fair where India has been made the Guest of Honour for the second time.

The other cartoonists who will feature in the programme are Abu Abraham, Bapu, Gopulu, Unni, Suresh Sawant, Sushil Klara, Vins, BV Ramamuirthy and Prabhakar Wairkar.

The documentaries made by S B Shankar Kumar alias Shanku were produced by Doordarshan in 2002, and these were adjudged by UNICEF as best DD programmes in 2003.

DD Director General Liladhar Mandloi told reporters here that the Frankfurt Book Fair has made elaborate arrangements for a month-long screening of films which are being shown in the Golden Hall at the Fair.

Mr Kumar, who is leaving for Frankfurt tomorrow to attend the function, said the 13-episode serial, which has already been shown nine times on Doordarshan because of its huge popularity, comprises live demonstrations and interactions with the cartooning geniuses.

Meanwhile, the DD(News) has made special arrangements for covering the book fair from October 6.

Mr Mandloi said the DD had entered into an arrangement with Reuters for exclusive coverage of the inaugural function. The event will also be shown in all the main bulletins of DD (National), DD (India) and Regional news bulletins.

Special reports will be telecast from tomorrow onwards.
