Army names British solider killed in Iraq
LONDON, Oct 3 (Reuters) A British solider killed in southern Iraq on Sunday was named as Lance Corporal Dennis Brady by the Ministry of Defence today.
The army said Brady, a Royal Army Medical Corps Regular Reservist, died after being wounded by mortar fire during an attack on his base in Basra.
Another solider was seriously injured in the assault and continued to receive medical treatment.
Brady, 37, was attached to the 1st Battalion of the Light Infantry. He had left the regular Army in 2004.
During his time as a solider he served in Kosovo, Afghanistan and was in combat in Iraq during the invasion in 2003. He was killed while on his fourth operational tour.
''Lance Corporal Brady was armed with a dry sense of humour, and was always ready with a barrage of friendly banter, as well as always being prepared to offer brutally honest advice regardless of the recipient's rank -- advice that was nearly always correct,'' his commanding officer, Lieutenant Colonel Johnny Bowron, said in tribute.
Brady, from Barrow-in-Furness, was married to Zoe.
Brady's death brings the number of British soldiers killed in Iraq to 119.
Britain has around 7,200 troops in Iraq, mostly stationed in and around Basra.
