Special rebate on 'khadi' on 'Gandhi Jayanti'
Rajkot, Oct 2: In a bid to increase the sale of khadi, the Khadi Gramodyog Commission has announced a tie-up with the National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad, for improving the quality and design of it's products and a 20 per cent rebate for 108 working days, starting today, on the sale of Khadi from certified institutions in the state.
Speaking to mediapersons here on the eve of Gandhi Jayanti, Saurashtra Rachnatmak Samiti chairman, Devendra Desai said that in view of the recent drastic changes in fashion, SRS has sought help from the NID.
Voicing concern over the declining sale of khadi, he said efforts are being made to improve the attractiveness of khadi, ''We are using new technology for it,'' he revealed.
''We have requested the state government to waive the VAT which has also been imposed on khadi, in the interests of khadi promotion,'' he said.
''Our target is to sell khadi items worth Rs 4 crore compared to Rs 3 crore last time,'' he added.
