Real hang on for draw with Atletico after Ramos red card

MADRID, Oct 1 (Reuters) Real Madrid hung on for a 1-1 draw at home to neighbours Atletico Madrid in a tense city derby in the Primera Liga today.

Atletico have not won in the Bernabeu since 1999 but went ahead through striker Mista in the sixth minute, as they took the game to Real.

Raul, who was dropped from the Spain squad on Friday, levelled the scores in the 37th minute, but despite Real losing Sergio Ramos to a red card midway through the second half, Atletico were unable to find a winner.

Champions Barcelona are top with 13 points after coming from behind to beat 10-man Athletic Bilbao 3-1 away yesterday.

Luis Fabiano's strike put Sevilla second on 12 points, as they beat Getafe 1-0 at home.

Real are third with 11 points, one ahead of Atletico, Valencia, Deportivo Coruna and promoted Recreativo Huelva.

Valencia face Gimnastic Tarragona at home later on Sunday.
