People in border villages and POK to listen Radio Kashmir after 1947

Srinagar, Oct 2 (UNI) For the first time since 1947, people living in the northern far-flung areas of Kashmir and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) will listen directly to all the programmes of radio Kashmir in morning transmission after a powerful relay transmission was installed in the frontier district of Kupwara.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister complimenting Radio Kashmir for relaying morning programmes directly from Srinagar to these far-flung areas said that Radio Kashmir has played a vital role since 1948 for dissemination of information and is the voice of general masses particularly the poor people.

'' I am keenly listening to public interest programmes particularly news and Serbeen and issue necessary instructions to the concerned departments for redressal of grievances once these come into my notice through these programmes'', Mr Azad said.

He said all stations of the Radio working in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh have, responsible role to play in strengthening communal harmony and promote regional coherence.

Mr Azad pointed out that when he was Union Minister Incharge of Information and Broadcasting he ensured that maximum new Radio stations are opened in the far-flung areas of Jammu and Kashmir.

He said he has even recently taken up the matter regarding the expansion of transmission network for Doordarshan and Radio in the state. He was happy to note that effective measures are on for expansion of this network.

The Chief Minister said Jammu, Leh, Kargil, Kathua and Poonch Radio stations are performing their responsibilities in a better manner. He said time has come when Bhadarwah, Rajouri, Kupwara, Drass, Nowshera, Tishru and Khaltsi relay stations are also upgraded as production stations.

He said a network of Radio stations and relay stations needs to be opened in all nooks and corners of the state.

The Chief Minister while giving felicitations to the people of Kupwara through his live audio message on Radio hoped that people of the area will take full benefit of these programmes to be relayed from Srinagar during morning hours.

He said it is the right time when people are observing fastings, Kupwara has been linked for morning transmission as well.

He particularly referred to Mahatma Gandhi whose birth anniversary is observed today and also the day is marked as centenary celebrations of satyagraha, this remarkable step has been taken by Radio Kashmir.
