Past tense, Jayasuyriya looks for future perfect

New Delhi, Oct 2 (UNI) With the controversy surrounding his selection earlier this year behind him, Sanath Jayasuriya today said he is looking towards the future and wants to continue his good one-day form in the upcoming Champions Trophy.

''I go out there and try to perform well for my country. As far as the preparation of the team goes, I think we have prepared well for the Champions Trophy. Batting, bowling and fielding, we have been doing well in all departments of the game,'' Jayasuriya told reporters during a media interaction after the team's arrival.

The explosive left-hander had retired following the home series against Pakistan before returning to the squad for the tour of England. He was instrumental in Sri Lanka's 5-0 ODI triumph, after being ignored for the Tests, with his two hundreds.

Jayasuriya said he has left the whole controversy behind and was now only concentrating on his game.

''I retired as the then selection committee did not want me in the team. Now the scenario is different and the new panel of selectors wants me in the team. So all that is history for me and my focus is only on cricket now,'' he said.

The left-hander was all praise for captain Mahela Jayawardane and said the team had been performing well under him.

''Jayawardane is a good captain and the team has been doing well under him. We have a great mix of experienced and new players now and they have bonded under his captaincy,'' the former captain said of his successor.

Jayasuriya also had words of praise for new coach Tom Moody and said the Australian has had a good influence on the team.

''We have been performing pretty well for the past six months under him. Players are enjoying working with him and his appointment has been good for our side,'' he said.

Unlike Team India, which has been experimenting with various combinations, Jayasuriya says Sri Lanka do not need to alter their line-up as the side has been doing a decent job.

''Our team is performing well in its present form. So, I don't think we need experimentation. I don't see a need to tinker with the line-up,'' he said, reacting to queries on whether Sri Lanka would experiment with its combination during the series.
