Modi attends all-religion prayer meet to pay respect to Mahatma
Rajkot, Oct 2 (UNI) Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today attended an all-religion prayer meeting at Kirti Mandir in Porbandar, the birth place of Mahatma Gandhi, on the occasion of the 137th birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation.
State Finance Minister Saurabh Patel also attended the prayer meeting.
In Rajkot, The Freedom Yuva Group had organised a grand ''shobhayatra'' which commenced from the Jubilee Bagh and culminated at the Rashtriya Shala. As many as 500 people, including many senior citizens, participated in the ''shobhayatra''.
The ''shobhayatra'' carried ten floats, one of them depicting terrorist organisation Al-Qaeda Chief Osama bin Laden surrendering at the feet of Mahatma Gandhi. A 40-inch statue of the Mahatma also attracted much attention.
Yet another tablean showed Mahatma Gandhi sharing a seat on Munnabhai's scooter. The colourful floats were prepared mainly by secondary and higher secondary school students. The other floats highlighted the ''Dandi March'' and ''Satyagrahas'' by Mahatma Gandhi.
