Mizoram pays tribute to Father of Nation

Aizawl, Oct 02 (UNI) Mizoram governor M M Lakhera and Chief Minister Zoramthanga today paid glowing tributes to the 'Father of the nation' on his 137th birth anniversary today.

An all religion prayer meeting, photo exhibition and cultural events also marked the observance of Gandhi jayanti in the state.

Mr Lakhera, Mr Zoramthanga, state ministers and eminent citizens garlanded the statue of Mahatma Gandhi near Zodin Square here.

People from all walks of life made a beeline to offer their tributes to Gandhiji.

Mr Lakhera recalled the 'satyagraha' movement launched by Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi in South Africa when he was discriminated against, which influenced the course of struggle against oppressions all over the world, including India.

Opposition leader and Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee president Lalthang Hawla also garlanded Gandhiji's statute on the occasion.
