Militant killed, four injured and tragedy averted in J

Srinagar, Oct 2 (UNI) Security forces killed a militant and arrested two others while four people, including a soldier, were injured in Jammu and Kashmir overnight.

Security forces today averted a major tragedy when they detected a powerful Improsived Explosive Device (IED) planted in a fruit box at Pulwama in south Kashmir.

Later bomb disposal squad defused the IED without causing any damage.

An official spokesman said security forces killed a militant in an encounter at Surankote in Poonch district of Jammu region last night. The encounter ensued after a search party was attacked by the militants. One AK rifle and other arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain militant.

Militants hurled a hand grenade towards a security force patrol party at Ajas in north Kashmir district of Baramulla. It exploded on the roadside causing injuries to a soldier and two children. The injured were hospitalised.

An encounter took place at Chatroo between militants and security forces last night. Later, two militants of Harkat-ul-Jehad Islami were arrested alongwith two AK rifles and some magzines.

Militants shot at and critically wounded a shopkeeper Ashiq Hussain Wani, near the headquarters of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) at Maisuma this afternoon. He was admitted to the hospital.
