Kabir Puraskar for saving Muslim woman
New Delhi, Oct 2 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh resident Ram Babu Singh Chauhan, who who saved a Muslim woman from miscreants despite sustaining injuries, was today awarded the Kabir Puraskar (Grade III) for this year.
Singh, who hails from Tamana Garhi village in Mahamaya Nagar district, protected the Muslim woman from some miscreants at Chamar Gate in Hathras, an official release said.
The award carries Rs 25,000 and a citation.
Singh has also organised a number of seminars and corner meetings for promoting communal harmony besides undertaking a walk from Hathras to Agra in 1996 to promote national integration.
A national award, Kabir Puraskar was instituted by the government in 1990 for recognizing acts of physical and moral courage displayed by a member of one caste, community or ethnic group in saving the lives and properties of members of another caste, community or ethnic group during communal violence.
The Award is given annually in three grades--- Grade-I, Grade-II and Grader-III carrying cash amount of Rs.100,000, Rs.50,000 and Rs.25,000.
