India to set up centre to assist NRIs in Dubai
Dubai, Oct 2: A Centre is likely to come up here which will exclusively address issues of non-resident Indians and work with the Indian diplomatic mission to deal with issues concerning the large workforce in UAE.
Minister of Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi said the cabinet has approved the proposal for such a centre that would work under the aegis of the Indian embassy.
He told Khaleej Times the aim is to speed up the assistance process to Indians across the entire Gulf.
Saying that the diplomatic mission alone could not handle such issues particularly that of the labour force, Mr Ravi said the Centre would be easily accessible to all Indians.
A cultural wing will also be attached to the Centre that would hold activities on a regular basis, he said.
