Dusshera celebrated with religious fervour across northwest
Chandigarh, Oct 2 (UNI) Symbolising the victory of good over evil, Dussehra was celebrated with religious fervour and traditional enthusiam in Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and the Union Territory of Chandigarh.
Devotees performed special ''poojas'' in temples. People offered worship to their vehicles, tools of trade and machinery on the occasion.
Thousands of people witnessed the burning of the effigies of demon king Ravana, his brother Kumbhkaran and son Meghnath at the sunset at various places in the region.
The effigies stuffed with fire crackers, came tumbling when set ablazed and people applauded the demise of the demon king at the hand of Lord Rama and his brother Laxman. Spectecular fire work preceded the fiery end of demon trio.
In Chandigarh, thousands of people assembled at the Parade Ground to witness to burning of the effigies.
In Ludhiana city alone, atleast at 50 places Ravana's effigies were burnt, besides Amritsar, Patiala, Jalandhar and other places in Punjab.
In Haryana, reports of Dussehra celebrations poured in from Ambala, Panipat, Karnal and other parts of the state.
Police and fire brigade, too, had made elaborate security arrangements to prevent any untoward incidents.
