CM leads Goa in paying homage to Mahatma Gandhi
Panaji, Oct 2 (UNI) Goa Chief Minister Pratapsinh Rane led the state in paying homage to the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi by offering floral tributes at Gandhi Chowk in old Goa on the occasion of ''Gandhi Jayanti'' today.
Religious leaders recited from the Bhagwad Gita, Bible and Quran while ministers and Members of Parliament from the state paid their tributes. A Kala Academy choir group sang ''bhajans'' at the function which was attended by a large number of school children.
Various functions were also held in schools and other educational institutions to mark the occasion which coincided with the Dussehra festivities.
Goa Governor S C Jamir, later in the day, participated in the celebrations at Kala Academy organised by Goa chapter of the Sarvodaya International Trust and recalled the contributions of Mahatma Gandhi.
Meanwhile, on the occasion of the 137th birth anniversary of Gandhi ji today, the Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone for a Rs 5.39-crore Goa Dental College hostel at Bambolim.
