Chopra ends tied 16th, Atwal tied 67th at Southern Farm Classic
Madison, Mississipi, Oct 2 (UNI) Daniel Chopra put up his worst performance of the week to miss a top-five finish and end tied 16th with a two-over 74, while Arjun Atwal also fared no better and a four-over 76 in the final round saw him conclude at the tied 67th spot in the three million dollar Southern Farm Bureau Classic here.
Chopra, who was tied for the third position after the penultimate round, ran out of form on the final day as he dropped four bogeys and a double bogey against four birdies for a disappointing finish.
The Indian-born Swede ended with a four-day total of seven-under 281, six shots behind winner DJ Trahan of America, who won the playoff after being tied for the top spot with compatriot Joe Durrant.
Trahan fired a one-under 71 in the final round to take his championship total to 13-under 275 but Durrant matched his show with a sizzling 66 on the final day. However, the runner-up missed a putt on the third playoff hole to see the title slip away from his grip.
Chopra had an ominous start with a bogey on the first and fourth hole. The Swede managed to gain a shot on the fifth but a double-bogey on the sixth once again pulled him back.
He fired a birdie on the seventh but a dropped shot on the eighth meant that Chopra made the turn at three-over. The poor run continued in his backward as he stumbled to another bogey on the 11th before arresting the slide to some extent with birdies on the 15th and 18th.
Meanwhile, Atwal failed to repeat his third round performance in which he carded a 68 and an 18th hole birdie was the only highlight of his poor performance in the final round. The Orlando-based Indian -- playing his back nine first -- dropped three bogeys and a double-bogey in all to end the tournament on a disappointing note.
Atwal ended with a four-round total of one-over 289. The former Asian Tour regular was off the mark from the very start and hit a double-bogey on the 10th. He followed this up with another dropped shot on the 11th before firing a birdie on the 18th, which was the only saving grace of his horrendous show of the concluding day.
Returning to play his front nine, Atwal dropped two more shots on the third and sixth to sign off disappointingly.
