BCCI to give assistance to GCA for construction of stadium at Tivim
Margao, Oct 2 (UNI) Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sharad Pawar today said Goa Cricket Association (GCA) will be given a finanial assistance of Rs 25 crore for the construction of the proposed international cricket stadium at Tivim.
Mr Pawar, who was on a private visit to the state, was speaking to mediapersons after inaugurating indoor cricket pitch at MCC ground, Margao today on the occasion of Dussehra.
He said as per the BCCI's new policy decision, all the state associations, willing to construct their own stadiums, will be provided with financial help.
''India has chance to perform in the ICC Champions Trophy, which will commence from October 7. I want India to win, though Asutralia looks favourite. India has a potential to win,'' he said optimistically.
He also said under the new selection committee chairman, Dilip Vengsarkar, the peformance of the players will be the key to select India team for World Cup.
Mr Pawar said Goa is likely to get one of the ODIs between India and West Indies series in January next year.
GCA president Dayanand Narvekar said the foundation stone for the proposed stadium at Tivim will be laid at the hands of Mr Pawar on February 11.
