Twelve killed in head-on road crash in Egypt
CAIRO, Oct 1 (Reuters) A truck and a microbus collided head-on south of Cairo in the early hours of today killing 12 people and injuring nine others, security officials said.
They said the microbus driver was trying to overtake another vehicle on a two-lane road and collided with a truck coming from the opposite direction.
The accident took place in the province of Beni Suef.
Reckless driving and the poor conditions of roads are blamed for many road crashes in Egypt. A series of transport accidents in recent months in which dozens have died have sparked public anger at what critics call the government's failure to enforce safety standards.
