Sonia Gandhi condoles Tandon's death

New Delhi, Oct 1 (UNI) Congress President Sonia Gandhi has condoled the death of veteran freedom fighter, journalist and writer P D Tandon, saying his contributions to politics and journalism would never be forgotten.

''I am deeply grieved over his death. This is an irreparable loss,'' Ms Gandhi said in her condolence message to the members of the bereaved family.

She said Mr Tandon was an inseparable part of the Congress in Allahabad.

''His contributions to journalism are immense. From 'Swaraj Bhavan' to his membership of the Uttar Pradesh Council of Minister, his political role can never be forgotten.'' Mr Tandon had passed away following a heart attack at a private nursing home in Allahabad last evening. His mortal remains were consigned to flames with full state honour on the banks of river Ganga in that city.

Wreaths were laid on behalf of Ms Gandhi by All India Women Congress chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi, while Samajwadi Party Lok Sabha MP Reoti Raman Singh laid a wreath on behalf of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav.
