President, Vice-President, PM greet people on Dussehra

New Delhi, Oct 1 (UNI) President A P J Abdul Kalam, Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today greeted people of the country on the occasion of Dussehra, saying the festival marked the triumph of good over evil, justice against injustice and the celebration of ethical and moral values.

President Kalam in his message said, ''The festival of Dussehra celebrates the triumph of truth and the power of ethical and moral values and value systems cherished so deeply in society.'' Appealing to the people to resolve, on this auspicious day, to bring about peace and well-being and to share their happiness with those in need the President said, ''On the auspicious occasion of Dussehra, I extend my greetings and good wishes to all my people living in India and abroad.'' The Vice-President, while extending his greetings and good wishes, said the festival celebrates the victory of Lord Rama over Ravana symbolising the triumph of good over evil.

Wishing peace, prosperity and happiness to all, Mr Shekhawat added that, ''Dussehra was a reaffirmation of our faith in the eternal truth that it is righteousness that ultimately triumphs.'' Dr Manmohan Singh, who is presently in South Africa, in his message said the festival signified the triumph of righteousness over evil which would inspire humanity to lead a pious, virtuous and noble life.

''I hope that Dussehra would usher in peace, prosperity and happiness for all.'' UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, in her message, said festivals like Dussehra were symbolic of lofty ideals and human values which inspire us towards mutual affection, harmony and brotherhood.

''I congratulate the countrymen on Vijaydashmi which is symbolic of the triumph of truth over untruth, justice against injustice and righteousness over evil.'' Delhi Lt Governor B L Joshi said Vijayadashmi is marked by Ramlila and Durga puja which signify communal harmony and national integration.
