Noted sculptor Somnath Hore dies at 85

Santiniketan, Oct 01 (UNI) Noted sculptor and winner of Kalidas Samman Somnath Hore tonight died after prolonged illness.

He was 85 and is survived by his wife Reba Hore and painter- daughter Chandana Hore.

Winner of Kalidas Samman, the artist was suffering from lung infection for quite sometime. He was admitted to a local hospital on Friday. He was released from Bolpur hospital this afternoon. But his condition deteriorated at home and he breathed last at 9.10 PM, family sources said.

Born at Srihatta in Chattagram (now in Bangladesh) in undivided Bengal, the sculptor took part in land reform movement. His art basically carried messages of hungry people of the country.
