Mumbai Open finals postponed by a day following incessant rains

Mumbai, Oct 1 (UNI) The incessant rains which continued to lash the city since this morning, has forced the finals of 3,80,000 dollars Kingfisher Airlines Open Tennis tournament to be postponed till tomorrow.

Tournament director Gaurav Natekar announced that they have decided to call off the play for the day and the finals will start at 1600 hrs tomorrow with the singles final being played first followed by the doubles final.

Asked if the players have already booked their flights as they have to reach another tournament venue, he said the ATP gives a one day buffer and the players have to wait for 24 hours to complete their matches as per thr rules.

Natekar also said if the matches get washed out on Monday also, then the players would be declared as runners-up and they would get the runners-up prize money as well as runners-up points for both the singles and doubles events.

In the event of a wash out tomorrow, fourth seed Dmitry Trusunov from Russia and third seed Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic will get 30,600 dollars each and earn 24 ATP points. In the doubles, Rohan Bopanna and Mustafa Ghouse and the third seeded Indian/Croatia pair, Mahesh Bhupathi and Mario Ancic, will be richer by 9,600 dollars each.
