Multi-vendor outsourcing on rise: survey
New Delhi, Oct 1 (UNI) Fourty-five per cent chief information officers (CIOs) of gobal companies prefer to employ multiple vendors for specific project requirements, with work competitively distributed, as opposed to 17 per cent favouring global deals with a single service provider.
This was revealed by a survey conducted by Patni Computers on more than 100 global CIOs and business leaders from its customer base in the US, Europe and Asia.
It found the criteria of vendor selection to be moving from a country-specific to a more global talent-based destination mix.
''About 32 per cent of the respondents still depend on India for offshore requirements, but a close 29 per cent chose multiple location for their need,'' the survey report stated.
The survey found an overwhelming 67 per cent respondents to be averse to setting up their own IT-based offshore units as they saw it as a substantial obligation uncalled for when they are getting measurable results from service providers.
It also observed that quality of services -- chosen by 33 per cent -- is gradually becoming the driving force in choosing an outsourcing partner.
Majority of the respondents expressed their willingness to make high investments in technologies such as Web services, Service-Oriented Architecture and Business Service Management in the next two years.
