Mexico invites Indian IT firms for investment

New Delhi, Oct 1 (UNI) Impressed by the global success of Indian IT companies, Mexico has invited them to make investments in the Latin American country, which will position India in the growing IT market there.

As a first step to facilitating investments in Mexico, an agreement was signed between the Electronic and Computer Software Export Promotion Council (ECS) and Mexican Chamber for IT, Electronics and Telecommunications (CANIETI) for promoting co-operation in electronics, computer software and telecommunication between the two countries.

''Indian IT companies particularly the SMEs can take advantage of the unprecendented focus given by the country for the promotion of computer software industry,'' Dr Alejandro Gonzalez, Vice Minister for SMEs, Ministry of Economy, Mexico, said here.

The agreement also provides for the exchange of delgation between both countries for the promotion of investment in the area of information technology.

Exports from Mexican IT industry is growing close to 10 per cent, which is three times higher than the growth of their general economy. Telecom services and computer equipment are the key drivers of export growth contributing over 22 billion dollars and 7.2 billion dollars respectively.

''Of the 2,100 IT firms in the country, 16 firms have been assessed and 25 firms are in the process to be assessed as meeting CMM/CMMI high maturity levels. 125 firms are in the pipeline to get the CMMI certificate,'' Mr Gonzalez said.

The minister also informed that financing, automotive, entertainment and multimedia, manufacturing and retail hold considerable scope for tie-ups with India companies.

''Mexico has compatible legal framework comparable to US legislations with respect to Intellectual Property Rights, E-commerce, data protection, which makes the Indian investment secure and attractive,'' he assured the industry leaders.

Mexico is implementing some key IT projects such as setting up of IT clusters and knowledge city where the Indian firms can provide technical assistance.
