IOC's 'marker' to check fuel adulteration
New Delhi, Oct 1: In a bid to check adulteration in petroleum products at oil depots, state-owned oil major Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) will formally launch a marker (Dye) system here which can covertly mark petrol and diesel to detect adulteration.
The novel system will help in detecting adulteration of auto fuels through kerosene. It is intended to bring down the use of kerosene as an adulterant and ensuring its reach to the target group through public distribution system.
The marker system was result of research carried out by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) at the behest of Ministry of Consumer Affairs to review fuel adulteration.
It was initially introduced in some of IOC and HPCL's depot in Mumbai and Delhi on a trial basis and was planned for an across-the-country launch.
Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Parliamentary Affairs Suresh Pachauri will launch the system at Indian Oil's Bijwasan Terminal on October 4. Among others who will be present on the occasion are Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Murli Deora.
