Goa honours 21 senior citizens on International Day today
Panaji, Oct 1 (UNI) Goa government today honoured 21 senior citizens and launched a new welfare scheme for the elderly christined ''Ummid'' to mark Senior Citizen's International Day.
Goa Social Welfare Minister Subhash Shirodkar felicitated them with a shawl, srifal and momentos in recognition of their services at a function held at the secretariat complex at Porvorim.
The new scheme envisages provision of hearing aids, spectacles, walking sticks, all free of cost, besides financial assistance for setting up of day-care centres in municipalities and panchayats.
