Fifteen swept away in flash flood,
Datia, MP, Oct 1 (UNI) At least three women died and 12 people were swept away due to rise in watel level of the Sindh river caused due to sudden release of water from a nearby dam at Sewada area in Datia district of Madhya Pradesh, police sources said today.
The pilgrims were crossing the river on feet and were going for a 'darshan to Mata Mandir in Ratangarh on the occasion of Durga Navmi when water was released from Manikheda dam without prior information.
On receiving information, police rescue teams reached the spot and fished out the bodies of Bhumi (20), Kangan (15) and Kamla Bai (60).
Meanwhile, Gwalior divisional Commissioner Komal Singh denied that water was released without prior information. He said power production has been stopped since last night and hence there was no question of water level of Sindh river rising.
However, eyewitnesses said the pilgrims were crossing the river on feet when they were washed away due to sudden rise in the water level.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan condoled the deaths and directed to provide relief to affected families. He sought a report from the district administration in this regard.
