Farmers suicide continues in western Vidarbha
Akola, Oct 1 (UNI) Notwithstanding the special packages for farmers announced by the State and Union Governments, farmers suicides continued unabated in western Vidarbha, especially in the three districts of Akola, Buldhana and Washim, police today said.
Ramesh alias Ramakant Sitaram Mahalle (55) a farmer from village Dhandra Vaidya in Akola taluka allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison on Sept 29, police said.
Constant failure of crops and the subsequent rising burden of his loan, forced him to commit suicide, family sources said.
In another incident Rambhau Ganpat Bundhe (60) a farmer from Village Palshi BK under the Khamgaon taluka, bordering Buldhana district allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison, police said.
The dead body of one Mr Pratap Shriram Jadhav (48), another farmer was found near a shop on D P Road in Khamgaon city, police informed.
Another 55-year-old farmer Mr Tukaram Govinda Nanade of Sungaon village, under Jalgaon Jamod taluka of bordering Buldhana district allegedly consumed poison on Sep 28. He was immediately rushed to hospital where he died the next day, police added.
