Draw specialists Hertha Berlin top Bundesliga
BERLIN, Oct 1 (Reuters) Hertha Berlin moved back on top of the Bundesliga today with a 2-2 draw at home to VfB Stuttgart even though they have won just two of their six matches this season.
Unbeaten Hertha lead a pack of five clubs on 10 points thanks to their better goal difference.
Nuremberg, Werder Bremen, Schalke 04 and Bayern Munich all trail Berlin after six rounds of an unexpectedly tight Bundesliga season.
In today's other match, Schalke squandered a chance to take over first place, losing 3-1 at Bayer Leverkusen.
After Mario Gomez put Stuttgart ahead in the fourth minute, Berlin dominated the rest of the first half. Germany defender Arne Friedrich equalised in the ninth minute with a fine header from a corner from Zecke Neuendorf.
Serbia striker Marko Pantelic made it 2-1 five minutes later, hitting a spectacular volley from 18 metres out that beat Stuttgart goalkeeper Timo Hildebrand in the upper left corner.
Stuttgart controlled most of the second half and got a deserved equaliser in the 57th minute when Cacau scored his third goal of the season, heading in a long cross from Mexico defender Ricardo Osorio.
