Couple commits suicide fearing social backlash

New Delhi, Oct 1: Fearing a social backlash over their 'affair', a couple which had eloped about a week back, was today found dead at their relative's place in Jehangirpuri area of North-West Delhi.

Neighbours Prem (35), married to Guddi, and Sandhya (25), married to Rakesh, were found dead at the residence of Prem's brother-in-law Suresh this morning, said the police.

''Residents of Sangam Vihar in Jehangirpuri, both had consumed some pesticide and were found dead this morning. Their relatives are being questioned.'' However, no suicide note has been found. The bodies have been sent for postmortem and a case registered, police added.

Meanwhile, sources said, Prem and Sandhya were allegedly having an affair for some time and had eloped eight days back. They later took refuge at Suresh's place. But news of social resentment and neighbours' outcry reportedly led them to take the extreme step.
