BJP burns Sonia, Manmohan in effigy over Afzal hanging

Lucknow, Oct 1 (UNI) Charging Congress with instigating terrorism, BJP workers here today burnt AICC president Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad in effigy.

The BJP workers were opposing clemency pleas made for Mohd Afzal Guru, the mastermind of Parliament attack, by Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti.

BJP workers gathered near the Vidhan Bhawan building and torched the effigies of the three leaders.

Raising slogans against Congress leadership, the BJP wondered how an Indian citizen could seek clemency for a person involved in the attack on Parliament.

''It seems there is no consideration for the Constitution and its values...Congress leaders are governed by vested political interests not patriotic feelings,'' the BJP leaders claimed.

Afzal is to be hanged on October 20 at Delhi's Tihar jail.
