Maharashtra retains 3 titles, MP boys walk away with one

Margao, Sep 30 (UNI) Maharashtra, as expected, retained the men's, women's and girl's titles while Madhya Pradesh bagged the boy's title in the West Zone Inter State Badminton Championship which concluded at the multi purpose hall, Fatorda, here today.

In the men's section, Maharashtra defeated Madhya Pradesh by 3-1 in the finals while the Maharashtra eves beat Gujarat 2-1 to retain the Rahimtoola and Chadha Cup respectively.

Earlier, in the morning, Maharashtra retained the Shafi Qureshi Cup for girls after defeating Madhya Pradesh by 2-0. Madhya Pradesh won the Narang Cup for boys defeating Maharashtra also by 2-0.

In the finals in the evening for Rahimtoola Cup for men, Maharashtra defeated Madhya Pradesh by 3-1 to retain the title. In the first singles, Maharashtra's Rituparna Kulkarni lost to Saurabh Verama 15-21, 11-21, while in the second singles, Ajay Jairam beat Abhimanyu Singh 21-9, 21-12. In the doubles, Mayur G and Rohit More beat Nimesh G and Prateek S 21-14, 21-18. In the third singles, Maharashtra's Hanish Rawat beat Arun Shukla 21-19, 21-13.

In the women finals for the Chadha Cup, Maharashtra defeated Gujarat by 2-1 to retain the title. In the first singles, Maharashtra's Sampada Sahasrabudhe beat Gujarat's Mansi Pandit 21-6, 21-15. In the doubles, Sampada S and Sonali M lost to Gujarat's Vaishali B and Mansi P by 13-21, 9-21. In the deciding second singles, Maharashtra's Jui Agaskar beat Vaisali Baria by 21-15, 21-13.
