Indian expatriates await deportation at Qatar camps
Dubai, Sep 30: The number of Indian expatriates being held in Qatar's deportation centre is on the rise, said a community association.
The average number of expatriates which was 25 to 30 annually till recent years, is now multiplying every month, said Mr Nilangshu Dey, the President of Indian Community Benevolent Fund (ICBF).
Of late, ICBF has been issuing on an average,30 air tickets per month to those waiting to get deported, The Peninsula reported.
''The figure is almost equal to the tickets that were issued by the ICBF annually until recent years,'' said Mr Dey while appealing to Indians for contributing funds to help the distressed compatriots.
An official of the Indian Embassy said there are 150 Indians awaiting deportation at the camp where they are held.
Of them, 35 are maids, whose travail continue as their sponsors are either unwilling to return their passports or not cooperating with the Qatari officials to settle disputes.
