Farmers not to be compelled by MIDC to sell land
Pune, Sept 30: Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh today said the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) will not acquire land forcibily and indiscriminately from farmers.
The farmers would also be suitably compensated, by offering them the prevailing market-prices for their land, he assured.
Talking to reporters about the state government's policy, the Chief Minister clarified that the government agency, MIDC, will acquire land that would be willingly given by the farmers.
He reiterated that the government will not take away lands forcibly for creating Special Economic Zones, and the farmers will get adequate compensation as per the market rates.
''Only wastelands, barren lands and single crop lands will be taken up for SEZ'', he said.
